Dr Ally Louks is an academic who went viral on Twitter (now X) for her PhD dissertation on the politics of smell descriptions in English literature. With over 120 million views, the post sparked attacks on the place of women in academia. Despite this, Louks finished her PhD without any corrections and has continued to bring attention to her research topic.
Dr Louks graduated with a BA in English Literature from the University of Exeter in 2019 and an MA in Issues in Modern Society from UCL. On a grant and supervised by Kasia Boddy Louks completed her PhD at Peterhouse College, Cambridge in 2024. Her dissertation was titled "Olfactory Ethics: The Politics of Smell in Modern and Contemporary Prose.” It examines "morally exigent olfactory language in relation to disgust and desire affects.”
In February 2025, Louks signed with both a British and an American literary agent.
