Luke Harding is a British hournalist currently serving as a foreign correspondent for The Gaurdian. He is known for his coverage of Russia under Vladimir Putin, WikiLeaks and Edward Snowden.
Harding studied English at University College, Oxford and edited Cherwell during his time there. He worked for The Sunday Correspondent and the Daily Mail before joining The Gaudian in 1996. He was based in Russia for the The Gaurdian from 2007 until, returning from a stay in the UK on 5th Feburary 2011, he was refused re-entry to Russia and deported on the same day. After the reversal of the decision on 9th February and the granting of a short-term visa, Harding chose not to seek a further visa extension.
He has lived and reported from Dehli, Berlin and Moscow, and has covered wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. Hardings' 2011 book 'Mafia State' discusses his experience in Russia and the political system under Vladimir Putin, which he describes as a mafia state. His subsequent books incllude WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange's War on Secrecy and The Snowden Files. In 2022 Harding published a book about the Russian invasion of Ukraine called 'Invasion' covering the first part of the conflict from February to September 2022 and based on Harding's reporting fron the frontlines.
In 2014 he as the recipient of the James Cameron prize for his work on Russia, Ukraine, WikiLeaks and Edward Snowden.
